Summer 2024 Season . . . HOT, HOT, HOT!!
Ten Teams Of Dedicated Players Sweating It Out Together On The Everglades Fields!
Thanks for the new rule that indicates when the heat index reaches 104, all games will shut down! Also, an earlier start time, 8:30. Sure, a tad early but with a hot season that began in May, who knows how the coming summer heat days will be!
Remember to hydrate the night BEFORE, the next morning AND during your games and watching! Give a nod to Steve, the Everglades maintenance guy, who ensures all the coolers are full!
. . . LOTS MORE TO COME! . . .

Who Will Take The Once & Done Title?? It's been a tight season overall. Bottom feeders beat top seeds, close games ended when the heat index spiked- even after the 5th inning- the visiting team came from behind, scored a number of runs and then it was called in the 6th. It reverted back to the previous inning when the home team was ahead and the fighting team, who came from behind, lost! Ohhh that heat!
Hey! At least it's not snow:)) Hmmm, the vibe was a bit cold! I did feel for the team who made a great come back, especially in that heat .... I happened to be shooting pics at home plate and saw the ruling play out: While it is a new rule in D4 to call a game in the 5th inning, if the heat index reaches 104, the heat index, at the top of the 6th was shown and stated by the first base ump to the home plate ump at 101. The first base ump said let's wait and see what happens. Interestingly, at one point it was a tied game. The same umpire stated depending on how the game goes, we'll take a 5 minute break. I asked why would you delay it when the heat continues to increase? That is exactly how a Lakers game was recently handled with the heat index. All other games in play were called yet, the Lakers/Wizards game continued. Yes, the Lakers won and the score was locked in on the 5th. So- I am not sure why or how either of those situations played out. The recap of the game I was shooting went as such: Once the opposing team fired up and began taking the lead in the 6th, 14/11, the ump ended the game declaring the home team winners half way thru the 6th inning...?
There was no definitive heat index given, no proposed 5 minute break, no conference with the visitors manager, only the home team manager... Ah well, so it went. We are all here to play, have a good, fun time in our extra innings in this game of life!
I will reach out and ask for more clarity on the ruling... Many of you have asked me how and why certain games have gone under this ruling, I thought I knew, according to the rules on the stat site, now I'm not too sure.... Ask the D4 board members for explanations- they make the rules.... Stay Safe . Keep SmilingI thank all the players and significant others for another fun season.
