Thankfully, it was a beautiful morning to begin this new D4 south league... Being a proponent of our softball player's fun, it was an interesting way in which the group, who initiated the D4 league split, kicked off this new league and season! As with many traditional ways I have organized an opening, it began with team introductions. The color guard entered the field- my military buddy, Sean Finnegan and his military brothers ... Lamar Young, the oldest active manager in D4, sang and threw out the 1st pitch. Lamar began in Villages rec softball in 2003- 2004 was when it officially began forming with the boards- there were only a couple leagues back then but of course, the population was lower then. Lamar played many years then began managing- he has been a successful manager with stellar, winning teams many seasons! He manages PACERS in the D4 north league- currently in 2nd of their team standings. We remain good friends- he recently shared he and his wife went back to his roots in Indiana to attend his 71st class reunion! WOW!! We will be honored to have Lamar singing once more at our 5th annual Clincher event- and Sean coming for our veterans event. Larry Rivellese, manager of NUGGETS in D4 north- will also be singing- another awesome vocalist that was a finalist on a tv talent show! Amazingly, he was a NYC plumber!Deepest thanks to all for volunteering and attending!
After all the new group and others who are taking part in the new league were introduced in the closing, John Calise, the new D4 south commissioner, announced to the teams I would be taking their pictures. I met John one day at Buffalo Glen when he first started, capturing his skills day performance, #2, on August 4, 2022- He began playing on the Bucks team Fall 2022, Winter 2023 with Heat. Then went on with Grizzlies- not just playing, he became the manager and teamed up with his new best friend, Arty Hines- who had also managed the team:) John did snag division champs having a champagne celebration with the winning team! The "don't poke the bear" slogan became popular! He has been dedicated to softball since his youth- more to come soon.John began greeting me "1st lady of softball" not long after getting to know this D4 family of fun. Looks as though it will continue with John and the group. Yes, that is little Johnny!
OPENING DAY! Thursday. September 3. 2026Welcoming Ceremony Followed By First Game: Seawolves vs Terrapins
It has been a gratifying "hobby" I continue to do for our softball guys and their families since 2020. It began taking my husband Nick's action shots then I shared his team with shots I captured of them- I'd email them and the word spread... Back then, Mr. Dave Bigelow was the D4 commissioner. I suggested possibly creating a FUN, website- and so it began! Thankfully I am able to continue my love of photography & memories captured for all of you. THE PHOTOS ARE A GALLERY- CLICK ON THE 1ST PICTURE AND ALL WILL BE SEEN FULL FRAME- IN SEQUENCE OF THE PLAYS!
